Interactive Puppet Theater makes users control digital puppet on the screen using their own hands. The Silhouette Character has the strong self-projection and the symbolism.
User can easily control puppet on the screen by wearing the prepared globes or color chips and putting his/her hands inside a small box with curtains just like the stage.
Using the theatrical expression from simplistic movement of the puppet that is made from computational codes, and the hands and the fingers that are one of the most intimate interfaces of human being, we can re-illuminate the artistic form, named puppet show in digital media.

I just learned from United Daily News that you have done quite significant
work in rendering traditional hand puppetry into digital form.
I have been working on robotic marionettes - string puppets for a number of years
in Singapore. I am from Taiwan and currently I am teaching in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. I teach and do research in robotics and
sensors. You may look at my website:
http://www.ntu.edu.sg/home/michen/
or our research links
http://155.69.254.10/users/risc/index.htm
to find out more of our works in robotic puppetry.
We mainly tackle the technical issues - control, design, programming, but
not touching much on the contents.
Right now we are developing a new low cost motion tracking sensors that
can be easily worn by the users without the trouble of sticking markers, etc.
The sensor is now patent pending by our funding agency - Singapore’s
research institution - ASTAR.

I have a student now working towards a version that can capture fine details of
the hand movements - very similar to the use of data glove but with much higher
resolution and lower cost. So this new sensor may be your solution to the hand
puppetry. - that most of the Taiwan firms not willing to invest due to complex
system set up using existing solutions.
I hope to have some chance to familiarize your work as most of the new digital
media related works are really multi-disciplinary. I travel to Taipei from time to time.
Best regards
