A music instrument called Marble Machine

Swedish musician Martin Molin has long had experience with esoteric instruments like the glockenspiel, traktofon, or Theremin, but he may have topped his musical prowess with the invention of his own new instrument: the Wintergatan Marble Machine, a hand-cranked music box loaded with instruments including a circuit of 2,000 cascading steel marbles. As the devices cycles it activates a vibraphone, bass, kick drum, cymbal and other instruments that play a score programmed into a 32 bar loop comprised of LEGO technic parts. The marbles are moved internally through the machine using funnels, pulleys, and tubes.

It’s a true MAKER soul~ check the making process of this musical instrument. Martin shows 7 prologues on the website. In the every step he cut the wood by himself. Amazing!

Unfolding The 8-Bit Era

Unfolding The 8-Bit Era from Disney Research & Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich (ETH) Game Technology Centre (GTC) on Youtube.

ETH Zurich Introduction

The Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich (ETH) Game Technology Center (GTC) provides an umbrella over ETH research, teaching, and outreach in the area of game technology. The ETH GTC connects research groups across ETH that are working on technology relevant and impactful for the game industry.

The Super Mario gaming project made by Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule Zürich (ETH) game Technology Center (GTC). The project is known as Unfolding The 8-Bit Era, an appropriate title given that it’s essentially a 360-degree panoramic variant of video game classics like Super Mario Bros. The world’s only cooperative 8-player, 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System capable of continuous, panoramic side-scrolling on that aforementioned 360-degree display, of course.

The Super Mario gaming a classic game. Through new play, to make it more interesting and visual effects. To create immersive, multiplayer, interactive experiences.

GLASS from Mediated Matter Group on Vimeo.

The project called Glass 3D Printing (G3DP)

Additive Manufacturing of Optically Transparent Glass developed by the Mediated Matter Group at the MIT Media Lab in collaboration with the Glass Lab at MIT.

G3DP is an additive manufacturing platform designed to print optically transparent glass. The tunability enabled by geometrical and optical variation driven by form, transparency and color variation can drive; limit or control light transmission, reflection and refraction, and therefore carries significant implications for all things glass. The platform is based on a dual heated chamber concept.

The glass tube created a unpredictable lighting effects. When the lighting source swing around the glass object, the lighting refection will reform again. That’s  an amazing part of this project of art creation. And the research team using the glass as a new material of 3D printer that innovated the new way for 3D printer at approximately 1900°F  high heat requirement.
